The unity of intellect and love in Bonaventure’s epistemology and its Christological foundations

摘要

理智对真理的认识与爱对至善的趋向，构成波纳文图拉心灵回归上帝的两个相互关联的方面，二者以基督的中保地位为基础相统一。永恒圣言作为受造物的范型与真理的根据，奠定理智认识的基础。道成肉身的圣言通过恩典更新灵魂，使认识与爱共同指向人与上帝的合一。这一共同目的之下，理智与爱的关系具有三个不同层次：观修中的理解与爱相互关联，现世神秘超拔中的理智活动归于止息，终末荣福直观中的面对面认识则包含爱。因此，理智与爱的统一体现为心灵回归进程中的有序关联，其具体形式随认识状态而变化。基督论由此将真理认识、爱的趋向与灵魂更新贯通起来，呈现出知识活动与人的存在完善之间的内在联系。

Abstract

The intellect’s knowledge of truth and love’s orientation toward the highest good constitute two interrelated aspects of the soul’s return to God in Bonaventure’s thought, united through Christ’s mediation. As the exemplar of created beings and the ground of truth, the eternal Word provides the foundation for intellectual knowledge. The incarnate Word renews the soul through grace, directing both knowledge and love toward union with God. Within this common end, the relationship between intellect and love takes three distinct forms: understanding and love are interrelated in contemplation; intellectual activity ceases in mystical ecstasy in this life; and face-to-face knowledge includes love in the eschatological beatific vision. The unity of intellect and love thus consists in their ordered relationship within the soul’s return to God, taking different forms according to the mode of knowing. Christology thereby connects the knowledge of truth, the orientation of love, and the renewal of the soul, revealing an intrinsic relationship between knowing and the perfection of human existence.
