Framing narratives and cultural dissemination in translation of Guizhou’s minority literature: A case study of Wang Hua’s The Two Sisters
贵州少数民族文学英译中的叙事建构与文化传播——以王华《花河》英译本为例

摘要

作为一个多民族国家，少数民族文学作品具有讲好中国故事、传播中国文化的重要意义。王华作为贵州仡佬族女性作家之一，其作品在传达地方特色故事、传播少数民族文化等方面发挥着重要作用。本文基于莫娜·贝克的叙事建构理论，研究王华小说《花河》英译本中的再叙事。从标示式重构、人物事件再定位和文本素材的选择性采用等三种重构策略出发，探讨贵州少数民族文学在英译过程中叙事的后经典构建方式。本研究旨在探索翻译实践中叙事建构的理论与方法，以期为少数民族文学文化的对外传播提供一定的借鉴和参考。

Abstract

As a multi-ethnic country, minority literature plays a significant role in presenting compelling stories of China and spreading Chinese culture. Wang Hua is one of the female writers of the Gelao ethnicity in Guizhou. Her works help to show local stories and spread the culture of ethnic minorities to China and the world. Based on Mona Baker’s narrative approach, this thesis explores the reconstructed story by analyzing three major translation strategies adopted in The Two Sisters——selective appropriation of textual material, framing by labeling and repositioning of participants. This study aims to explore the theories and methods of framing narratives in translation practice, which may provide some reference for the overseas publicity of ethnic minority literature and culture.
