Abstract

This paper against the challenges confronting college English classroom teaching in the digital age, explores optimization pathways for classroom interaction in college English education from the perspectives of interactive teaching theory and core linguistic frameworks including Content-Based Instruction (CBI) and Schema Theory. The study first defines the core connotation of interactive teaching, clarifies its pivotal role in language acquisition, and establishes interaction as an essential link and requisite pathway for language learning. Focusing on practical college English classroom contexts, the research then proposes targeted implementation strategies across three dimensions: refining teacher discourse, constructing multi-dimensional interaction scenarios, and deepening cognitive interaction through Schema Theory. Specifically, it highlights the critical role of teacher talk in facilitating multi-layered interactions—between teachers and students, among students, and between students and instructional content—and leverages Schema Theory to activate students’ prior knowledge networks and foster the internalization of linguistic knowledge. Finally, the paper analyzes the educational value of interactive teaching, demonstrating its capacity to enhance students’ comprehensive language proficiency and learning motivation, while cultivating intercultural communicative competence and critical thinking skills. This study provides theoretical support and practical solutions to address longstanding dilemmas in traditional college English teaching, offering vital reference for advancing pedagogical reform and high-quality development in the field.
