明代戏曲中的服饰意象象征身份、表达情感、包含文化隐喻，是戏曲叙事与审美结构的重要组成部分。服饰意象的文化负载在英译中容易被削弱与误读。本文以白之与许渊冲的译本为研究对象，对比其翻译理念与文化策略的差异，分析服饰意象在跨语言转换中的重构方式。研究表明，戏曲服饰翻译需在保留文化与读者理解间取得平衡，通过适度显化、诗性重建及文化转换，使作为文化符号的服饰意象在英译中仍能保持审美价值与象征功能。
Costume imagery in Ming dynasty drama embodies social identity, emotional expression, and cultural symbolism, forming an essential part of theatrical narrative and aesthetics. When translated into English, these culturally embedded images often risk semantic reduction or symbolic loss. Through a comparison of translations by Cyril Birch and Xu Yuanchong, this study examines how differing translation philosophies and aesthetic aims shape the reconstruction of costume imagery across languages. The findings suggest that effective translation of such imagery requires balancing cultural preservation with target-reader accessibility, employing strategies such as explicitation and poetic re-creation to maintain the symbolic and aesthetic functions of costume in cross-cultural contexts.
