A study on the subtitle translation of Seasons of China --from the Perspective of Eco-Translatology
生态翻译学视角下《四季中国》字幕翻译研究

摘要

本文基于生态翻译学理论，以纪录片《四季中国》英汉字幕为例，分析跨文化传播中字幕翻译在语言、文化、交际三个维度的对比差异。在语言维度，译者需应对英汉思维差异与表达习惯，通过音译+注释、结构转换等方式实现语义平衡；在文化维度上，译者应在保留文化特质与适应译语认知间取得动态平衡；交际维度上则需译者兼顾信息完整性与传播限制，以多模态协同实现诗意与谚语的功能转换。本研究拓展了生态翻译学在影视翻译中的应用，也希望为中国生态文化对外传播提供实践参考，降低文化折扣，提升跨文化传播效能。

Abstract

Based on the theory of Eco-Translatology, this study examines the subtitle translation of the documentary Seasons of China through a comparative analysis across the linguistic, cultural, and communicative dimensions. In the linguistic dimension, translators address differences in English and Chinese thinking patterns and expression habits by employing strategies such as transliteration with annotations and structural transformations to achieve semantic balance. In the cultural dimension, a dynamic equilibrium must be maintained between preserving cultural uniqueness and adapting to the target audience’s cognitive framework. In the communicative dimension, translators need to balance information completeness with dissemination constraints, utilizing multi-modal collaboration to achieve functional equivalence in conveying poetic and proverbial expressions. This research extends the application of Eco-translatology in audiovisual translation and aims to provide practical insights for the international dissemination of China's ecological culture, thereby reducing cultural discount and enhancing the effectiveness of cross-cultural communication.
