Strategies and challenges of ai-assisted cross-cultural translation: a case study on the English translation of socio-cultural words
人工智能辅助跨文化翻译的策略与挑战——以社会文化词英译为例

摘要

随着人工智能技术的发展，人工智能辅助跨文化翻译逐渐成为跨文化交流中的重要方式。但是，由于跨文化翻译需求的多样性，以及人工智能辅助跨文化翻译技术条件的不成熟，当前的跨文化翻译实践仍然面临一些明显的挑战。基于此，本文以社会文化词英译为例，对人工智能辅助跨文化翻译的策略，以及翻译中面临的挑战进行了探讨。研究发现，人工智能能够较好地辅助人进行相关词语的直译、意译和音译，并对翻译结果进行评价和优化挑战。然而，现阶段的人工智能辅助跨文化翻译也面临文化缺省、语义偏差、表述不规范等挑战。这提示，除了从语言学领域完善人工智能辅助跨文化翻译的理论与策略外，还要从跨文化表达方面提高人工智能对社会文化词的处理能力，以构建更加可靠的人工智能辅助跨文化翻译生态。

Abstract

With the continuous advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, AI-assisted cross-cultural translation has gradually become an important approach in intercultural communication. However, due to the diversity of cross-cultural translation demands and the immaturity of current AI-assisted translation technologies, practical translation still faces several notable challenges. Based on the case of English translation of socio-cultural words, this paper explores the strategies and challenges of AI-assisted cross-cultural translation. The study finds that AI can effectively assist human translators in performing literal translation, free translation, and transliteration of culturally loaded expressions, as well as in evaluating and optimizing translation outputs. Nevertheless, current AI-assisted cross-cultural translation still suffers from issues such as cultural omission, semantic deviation, and nonstandard expression. This suggests that, in addition to improving theoretical models and translation strategies from a linguistic perspective, it is also necessary to enhance AI’s ability to process socio-cultural expressions from a cross-cultural communication perspective, so as to build a more reliable and adaptive AI-assisted translation ecosystem.
